Deployable A-10 Aircraft Maintenance Access System

After the success of JE’s system at Nellis, another Air Force organization needed the same capability in a deployable format — packable into military shipping containers and field-ready anywhere the mission required.

The challenge

The Same System, Inside a Container

The original Nellis AFB system worked well but was designed around a fixed location. This customer needed the same full-aircraft coverage and safety performance, but packable into military shipping containers, transportable worldwide, and rapidly assembled in the field.
Deployment cycle // packed, shipped, assembled 3 STATES
01 Packed

Components nested inside the container envelope, ready for movement.

02 In transit

The container moves by road, sea or air with the unit.

03 Assembled

Standing at the deployed location, full aircraft coverage restored.

Platform components — the same parts in all three states Military shipping container envelope
Nothing is left behind between states — the parts that ship are the parts that stand.

Constraint 01

Fixed-Location Design Limitation

The proven system wasn’t built for transport or field assembly.

Constraint 02

Container Compatibility Requirement

Needed to fit standard military shipping container constraints.

Constraint 03

Rapid Field Assembly

Needed to be quickly assembled and deployed by maintenance personnel.

The solution

Redesigned, Not Restarted

Rather than starting from scratch, JE evaluated how the proven Nellis-developed platforms could be redesigned for transport, deployment, assembly, and storage — preserving the original system’s access capability, safety, and structural performance in a lighter, modular, deployable form.
Each constraint answered by a design decision

Constraint 01

The proven system wasn’t built for transport or field assembly.

All-Aluminum Structure

Reduced weight while maintaining strength and durability.
Training supplied with the system
JE provided assembly training, operational training on safe positioning around the aircraft, and sustainment guidance covering inspection, storage, and transportation.

Operational impact

A Proven Fixed-Base System, Rebuilt for Worldwide Deployment

The customer received the same full-aircraft maintenance coverage as the original fixed-base system, but in a form that travels with the mission — supporting expeditionary operations without sacrificing safety or access.

Expeditionary Capability

Transformed a hangar-based system into a field-deployable one.

Nose to tail

Full Aircraft Access

Maintained fuselage, wing, and engine access capabilities.

Mission Flexibility

Supports deployed operations without sacrificing safety or access.
JE adapted the field-proven Nellis AFB A-10 access system into a container-compatible, modular design — preserving full-aircraft access capability while enabling assembly and use at any deployed location worldwide.

Technical & operational FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q01

Is this the same system used at Nellis AFB?

It’s built on the same proven design, adapted specifically for container transport, field assembly, and expeditionary deployment rather than fixed-hangar use.
Q02

What training was provided with the system?

JE provided assembly training, operational training on safe positioning around the aircraft, and sustainment guidance covering inspection, storage, and transportation.
